15th Annual Punta Cana Carnival Showcases Art and Culture

Thousands of local and foreign visitors gathered at the fifteenth (15th) edition of the Punta Cana Carnival, an initiative of the Puntacana Group, held on Saturday, February 3, on Boulevard 1ro. November of The Village Puntacana, to enjoy the best of the artistic and cultural attractions of various national and international troupes.

The parade began with the coronation of King Momo, the prominent Dominican baseball player George Bell, who played in Major League Baseball in the 80s and 90s, being the first Major League player to hit three home runs on an opening day. . Bell was named Most Valuable Player of the American League, becoming the first Dominican to receive this award. Likewise, he won 3 Silver Bats in 1985, 1986 and 1987.

This coronation is one of the most anticipated surprises of the gala, since the distinction is awarded to prominent and influential national personalities, who inspire Dominican society with their work and, in turn, promote art, culture and sport. After his coronation, Bell strolled down the boulevard in a collectible vehicle, driven by Mr. Frank Rainieri, founder of Grupo Puntacana.

The cultural festival continued with an impressive multicolor display of masks and costumes from 37 of the best troupes and the parade of more than 1,500 carnival members representing Punta Cana, Bávaro, La Vega, Puerto Plata, Santiago, Río San Juan, Cabarete, Las Terranas , Barahona, San Juan de la Maguana, San Cristóbal, Santo Domingo, Cotuí, Nizao and Aruba, to name a few.

Visitors enjoyed the parade from 21 stages, as well as 10 stands with free admission, in an atmosphere of live music, food trucks and entertainment in a family-friendly and safe space. For the first time, the event had the Cueva de los Tres Caras, a space open to the public with gastronomic offers and experiences for the entire community.

Likewise, the event provided the distribution of waste recycling stations, the implementation of reusable cups and the use of biodegradable disposables on pallets, with the purpose of promoting sustainable initiatives and reducing environmental impact.
