Punta Cana- At the inaugural Latin American Councilors Summit, over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 nations have convened in Punta Cana. The summit, which will last until November 2, centers on five pillars of municipal development. It aims to improve local legislative bodies, stimulate sustainable urban growth, implement climate action, innovate public management, and enhance global cooperation. It includes conferences, panels, and round tables designed to offer practical tools and strengthen alliances for better urban management and improved quality of life in Latin American cities.
The summit will culminate with a Final Declaration. This document will outline the group’s commitments and future vision for Latin American cities. The emphasis is on councilors’ commitment to fostering sustainable, inclusive communities through resilient, transparent municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit. Its partners include the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The summit aims to strengthen municipal governance and lay out a collective plan to tackle urban challenges in the region.
