Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American nations gathered in Punta Cana. The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors will last until November 2. The event focuses on five main areas of municipal development. These are enhancing local legislative bodies, promoting sustainable urban growth, driving climate action, cultivating innovation in public management, and encouraging global cooperation. Through various activities, the summit aims to offer councilors practical tools and encourage alliances. The goal is to improve urban management and life quality in Latin American cities.
The summit will end with a Final Declaration. This document states the mutual commitments and vision for the future of Latin American cities. It will underscore councilors’ dedication to sustainable and inclusive communities. They want to achieve this through transparent and resilient municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), in alliance with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and FLACMA organized the summit. They aim to strengthen municipal governance and create a common agenda to tackle regional urban challenges.
