Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries attended the premier Summit of Latin American Councilors in Punta Cana. The Summit ran until November 2, focusing on five principal areas of municipal development. These are: upgrading local legislative bodies, fostering sustainable urban growth, nudging climate action, promoting public management innovation, and bolstering global cooperation. Through conferences, panels, and round tables, the summit aimed to equip councilors with effective tools and encourage alliances to enhance urban management and quality of life in Latin American cities.
The summit ended with a Final Declaration, a document outlining collective commitments and a vision for the future of Latin American cities. The declaration highlights councilors’ dedication to building sustainable and inclusive communities led by transparent and resilient municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), in alliance with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA), organized the summit. Its goal was to fortify municipal governance and flesh out a shared agenda to tackle regional urban challenges.
