Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries joined the inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors. The summit, which lasts until November 2, addresses five crucial municipal development areas. These include enhancing local legislatures, promoting sustainable city growth, accelerating climate action, advocating for innovative public management, and reinforcing international cooperation. Participants benefit from practical tools and alliances from conferences, panels, and round tables designed to improve urban management and quality of life.
The summit will culminate with a final declaration highlighting the collective vision and commitments for Latin American cities’ future. The statement underscores councilors’ commitment to creating resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities through transparent municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit, in collaboration with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The goal is to bolster municipal governance and create a shared agenda to tackle urban challenges in the region.
