Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors from 33 countries in Latin America are meeting in Punta Cana. They are here for the inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors, which spans till November 2. This summit addresses key areas such as enhancing local legislative bodies and sustainable urban growth. It also aims to promote climate action, public management innovation, and international cooperation. The summit uses discussions and seminars to equip councilors for urban management improvement and better quality of life in Latin American cities.
At the summit’s end, a Final Declaration outlines the shared commitments and vision for Latin American cities’ future. This statement emphasizes councilors’ dedication to create sustainable, inclusive communities through resilient and transparent municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit, in alliance with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The summit’s objective is to strengthen municipal governance and develop a shared agenda for addressing urban challenges in the region.
