Punta Cana.- The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors is underway in Punta Cana. Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries are attending the summit that ends on November 2. The summit centers on five key areas for municipal development. These include improving local legislative bodies and fostering sustainable urban growth. It also covers driving climate action and promoting public management innovation. The final focus is fostering global cooperation. The aim of the summit is to equip councilors with practical tools and help form alliances to enhance urban management and life quality in Latin American cities.
The summit will end with a Final Declaration. This document will outline the collective commitments of the participants and their vision for Latin American cities’ future. Councilors will express their commitment to sustainable and inclusive communities. This will be done through transparent and resilient municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), Dominican Municipal League (LMD), Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA) organized the summit. The primary aim of the summit is strengthening municipal governance and setting an agenda to tackle regional urban challenges.
