Punta Cana.- Over 500 local leaders from 33 Latin American countries are attending the first Latin America Councilors’ Summit in Punta Cana. The Summit runs until November 2. It focuses on five key municipal development areas. These include improving local legislative bodies and sustainable urban growth. Other areas are driving climate action and promoting innovation in public management. Its aim is to improve and enhance urban management and quality of life in Latin American cities. Councilors will be given practical tools and an opportunity to establish alliances.
A Final Declaration will conclude the Summit. The document outlines shared commitments and future vision for Latin American cities. It underlines the councilors’ dedication to building sustainable, inclusive communities through resilient municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit, in alliance with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The goal is to strengthen municipal governance and address regional urban challenges through a shared agenda.
