Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors from 33 Latin American countries assembled in Punta Cana for the inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors. The summit, scheduled to run until November 2, emphasizes five aspects of municipal development. These include enhancing local legislative bodies, advancing sustainable urban growth, climate action, innovation in public management, and fostering global cooperation. The organization aspires to arm councilors with practical tools for better urban management. It also aims to build partnerships to improve the quality of life in Latin American cities.
The summit will conclude with a Final Declaration. This document outlines the cooperative commitments and future vision for Latin American cities. It emphasizes the councilors’ commitment to nurturing sustainable, inclusive communities via transparent, resilient leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA) organized the summit. It aims to foster municipal governance and enact a shared regional urban challenge agenda.
