Punta Cana.- The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors has brought together over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries in Punta Cana. The summit, which runs until November 2, prioritizes five areas of municipal development. It aims to improve local legislation, promote sustainable urban growth, drive climate action, innovate public management, and foster global cooperation. Through various activities, it provides councilors with useful tools and encourages partnerships to enhance city management and residents’ quality of life.
A Final Declaration will conclude the summit. This document outlines the attendees’ commitments and vision for Latin American cities’ future. It will highlight their pledge to create sustainable, inclusive communities via transparent, resilient municipal leadership.
Organizations: the Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA), have organized the summit. The goal is to boost municipal governance and create a uniform agenda to tackle regional urban challenges.
