Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries gathered for the first Summit of Latin American Councilors. The summit ran until November 2. It centered on five areas of municipal advancement. These are enhancing local legislative bodies, promoting sustainable urban growth, pushing for climate action, encouraging public management innovation, and global cooperation. The summit aimed to equip councilors with practical tools and promote alliances. These alliances aim to improve urban management and life quality in Latin American cities.
The summit ended with a Final Declaration. This document outlines the shared commitments and vision for the future of Latin American cities. The statement highlights councilors’ dedication to building sustainable, inclusive communities through transparent, resilient municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit. They worked in alliance with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). A main goal of the summit was to fortify municipal governance and create a mutual agenda to tackle regional urban challenges.
