Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries convened in Punta Cana. They were there for the first Summit of Latin American Councilors, running until November 2. It centered on five main areas: enhancing local legislation, encouraging sustainable city growth, forward climate actions, endorsing public management innovation, and cultivating global cooperation. The summit’s purpose was to equip councilors with handy tools and establish alliances to uplift city management and living standards in Latin American cities.
The summit is set to conclude with a Final Declaration, laying out the shared commitments and envisioned future of Latin American cities. The declaration underscores the councilors’ resolve to nurture sustainable, inclusive communities through resilient and transparent municipal leadership.
Organizers include the Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), Dominican Municipal League (LMD), Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The summit aims to bolster municipal governance and construct a common agenda for coping with regional urban issues.
