Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries are in Punta Cana. They’re attending the inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors until November 2. The summit addresses five main areas: improving local legislative bodies, promoting sustainable urban growth, climate action, innovation in public management, and fostering global cooperation.
The summit will finish with a Final Declaration. This document outlines commitments and the collective vision for Latin American cities’ future. Councilors are committed to building sustainable, inclusive communities via resilient and transparent municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit. They worked with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The summit aims to strengthen municipal governance and form a shared agenda to face regional urban challenges.
