Punta Cana.- The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors attracted over 500 local leaders from 33 countries. The summit, which runs until November 2, focuses on five key aspects of municipal development. This includes enhancing local legislation, promoting sustainable urban growth, driving action against climate change, encouraging innovation in public management, and fostering global cooperation. By conducting conferences and roundtable discussions, the summit hopes to provide practical resources for councilors and establish partnerships to improve the quality of life in Latin American cities.
The summit’s Final Declaration is set to describe all agreed commitments towards enhancing Latin American cities. It will highlight the councilors’ dedication to building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable cities through clear municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), in collaboration with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA), organized the summit. A significant goal of the summit is to fortify municipal governance and set a collective strategy to overcome urban challenges in the region.
