Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American nations are present at the inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors in Punta Cana. The summit, which lasts until November 2, targets five critical areas of municipal development. The goals are to improve local laws, promote sustainable urban growth, push for climate action, encourage public management innovation, and increase global cooperation. The objective is to provide practical tools to councilors and create alliances to enhance urban management and living conditions in Latin American cities.
The summit will end with a Final Declaration, a document outlining the collective commitments and vision for Latin American cities. This statement will emphasize the councilors’ commitment to constructing sustainable, inclusive communities through transparent, robust municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit, allied with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The agenda includes strengthening municipal governance and addressing regional urban challenges.
