Punta Cana.- Over 500 local leaders from 33 Latin American countries gathered for the first Summit of Latin American Councilors in Punta Cana. The summit is scheduled to last until November 2. It focuses on improving local legislative systems, promoting sustainable urban growth, and advocating for climate action. The summit also puts an emphasis on innovative public management and global cooperation. The goal is to provide practical tools and strengthen alliances for improved urban management and quality of life in Latin American cities.
A Final Declaration will mark the end of the summit. It is a document outlining collective commitments and future visions for Latin American cities. It will highlight the councilors’ dedication to creating sustainable, inclusive communities through transparent, resilient municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit, working alongside the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), and the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), as well as the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The goal is to enhance municipal governance and create a shared agenda for tackling regional urban issues.
