Punta Cana.- The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors takes place in Punta Cana. Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries are participating. The summit, lasting until November 2, targets five key areas of municipal development. These are the enhancement of local legislative bodies and sustainable urban growth. It includes driving climate action and promoting innovation in public management. It also aims at fostering global cooperation. Practical tools are provided through conferences, panels, and round tables to facilitate urban management and improving quality of life in Latin American cities.
The summit will conclude with a Final Declaration. This document outlines the shared commitment and vision for Latin American cities’ future. The declaration stresses the councilors’ commitment towards developing sustainable, inclusive communities through resilient, transparent municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organizes the summit. It is in partnership with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The summit’s goal is to bolster municipal governance and establish a common agenda to tackle regional urban challenges.
