Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors from 33 Latin American countries have come together in Punta Cana. It’s the first Summit of Latin American Councilors, lasting until November 2. It tackles five key areas: enhancing local legislatures, supporting sustainable urban growth, boosting climate action, encouraging public management innovation and bolstering international cooperation. The goal is to provide councilors with effective tools and partnerships. This will enhance urban management and quality of life in these cities.
The summit will end with a Final Declaration outlining collective commitments for Latin American cities’ future. It will highlight councilors’ commitment to building sustainable, inclusive communities via robust municipal leadership.
The summit is organized by the Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) in alliance with The Dominican Municipal League (LMD), The Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM) and The Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The aim is to enhance municipal governance and draw up a shared plan to tackle urban challenges in the region.
