Punta Cana.- The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors in Punta Cana has over 500 participants from 33 Latin American countries. The summit runs until November 2. It aims to improve municipal development in five main areas. This includes enhancing local legislative bodies and promoting sustainable urban growth. Other goals are driving climate action and innovation in public management. Global cooperation is also a focal point. Participants seek to use conferences and discussions to develop practical tools. They aim to build alliances for better urban management. They also want to improve the quality of life in Latin American cities.
The summit will conclude with a Final Declaration. This document outlines the group’s commitments and vision for the future of Latin American cities. It highlights the councilors’ commitment to build sustainable, inclusive communities through transparent and resilient leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA) organized the summit. The aim is to strengthen municipal governance and address regional urban challenges through a shared agenda.
