Punta Cana.- The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors is underway in Punta Cana. The summit has attracted over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American nations. This event will run until November 2.
The summit focuses on five key aspects of municipal development. These include enhancing local legislative bodies and fostering sustainable urban growth. It also aims at encouraging climate action, promoting innovation in public management, and strengthening global cooperation.
Participants will engage in panels, discussions, and conference sessions. The primary goal is to provide practical tools and foster alliances for improved urban management and better quality of life in Latin American cities.
At the end of the summit, they will release a Final Declaration. This document will encapsulate the collective commitments and vision for the future of Latin American cities. It will highlight councilors’ commitment to as transparent and resilient municipal leaders. They aim to build inclusive and sustainable communities.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit. They partnered with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The main objective is to fortify municipal governance whilst addressing regional urban challenges under a collective agenda.
