Punta Cana – 500+ councilors and leaders from 33 Latin American nations came together in Punta Cana. They participated in the first-ever Summit of Latin American Councilors, running until November 2. The summit plans to advance five key areas of city development. They phrase them as empowering local legislatures, inciting sustainable urban growth, driving climate action, promoting innovation in public management, and reinforcing international partnership. Through conferences and workshops, the summit provides practical resources for councilors, promoting collaboration to enhance urban leadership and living standards in Latin American cities.
The summit will wrap up with a Final Declaration. It’s a statement encapsulating the shared aspirations and dedication to the future of Latin American cities. The Declaration underscores their commitment to developing sustainable and inclusive societies via transparent and robust municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit, in partnership with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). They intend to fortify municipal governance and establish a universal strategy to tackle regional city issues.
