Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries are in Punta Cana for the First Summit of Latin American Councilors. This summit, ending on November 2, targets five key municipal development areas. The areas include enhancing local legislative bodies, promoting sustainable urban development, driving climate action, advancing public management innovation, and supporting global collaboration. The main goal of the summit is to equip councilors with useful tools and alliances for improved urban management and life quality in Latin American cities.
The summit will wrap up with a Final Declaration. This document outlines the shared commitments and vision for Latin American cities’ future. The emphasis in the statement lies in the councilors’ devotion to building resilient and inclusive communities via transparent municipal leadership.
Organizations such as the Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA) came together to organize the summit. The main goal of the summit is to bolster municipal governance and devise a shared plan to tackle regional urban challenges.
