Punta Cana.- The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors is taking place in Punta Cana. Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 countries in Latin America are in attendance. The summit, which lasts until November 2, focuses on five primary areas of municipal development. These include improving local legislative bodies and fostering sustainable urban growth. It also covers driving climate action and promoting innovation in public management and global cooperation. The goal of the summit is to equip councilors with practical tools and establish alliances. This will improve urban management and quality of life in Latin American cities.
The summit will wrap up with a Final Declaration. This is a document outlining the collective commitments and future vision for Latin American cities. The statement will underscore councilors’ dedication to building sustainable, inclusive, transparent, and resilient communities.
The summit was orchestrated by the Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) in collaboration with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The main objective is to bolster municipal governance and establish a joint agenda to address regional urban challenges.
