Punta Cana.- The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors has begun in Punta Cana. Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries are in attendance. The summit will run until November 2. The focus is on municipal development. Topics include improving local legislative bodies, fostering sustainable urban growth, promoting innovation in public management, driving climate action, and fostering global cooperation. The summit includes conferences, panels, and round tables. It provides practical tools for councilors and fosters alliances to improve Latin American urban management and quality of life.
The summit will end with a Final Declaration. This is a document outlining the collective commitments and vision for Latin American cities future. The statement will highlight councilors’ commitment to building sustainable, inclusive communities through transparent and resilient leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA) organized the summit. The aim is to strengthen municipal governance and set up a shared agenda for addressing urban challenges regionally.
