Punta Cana – Over 500 local leaders from 33 Latin American countries have met in Punta Cana for the first Summit of Latin American Councilors. The summit, running until November 2, concentrates on five critical municipal development areas. It aims to improve local legislative departments, encourage sustainable urban growth, promote climate change action, foster innovation in public management, and encourage worldwide cooperation. Through conferences and discussions, the summit strives to provide practical tools to councilors and foster alliances to enhance urban management and improve Latin American cities’ living standards.
The summit’s conclusion will present a Final Declaration. This document will convey the shared commitments and vision for future Latin American cities. It will underline the councilors’ commitment to creating resilient and inclusive communities through transparent municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Municipal Associations (FLACMA) organized the summit. Its goal is to bolster municipal governance and set a communal agenda to tackle regional urban issues.
