Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors from 33 Latin American countries met in Punta Cana for the first Summit of Latin American Councilors. The summit, which ends on November 2, focuses on five areas of municipal development. These are improving local legislative bodies, fostering sustainable urban growth, driving climate action, promoting innovative public management, and fostering global cooperation. The aim is to equip councilors with useful tools and alliances to enhance urban management and lifestyle in Latin American cities.
The summit will conclude with a Final Declaration. This document will outline common commitments and future visions for Latin American cities. It will highlight the councilors’ commitment to building inclusive, sustainable communities through transparent, resilient municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA) organized the summit, with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA) collaborating. The goal is to strengthen municipal governance and establish a shared agenda to tackle regional urban challenges.
