Punta Cana.- The inaugural Summit of Latin American Councilors is taking place in Punta Cana. This event draws over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries. The summit runs until November 2 and focuses on certain key elements of municipal development. These include strengthening local legislative bodies and promoting sustainable urban growth. It also encompasses steps towards climate action and innovation in public administration. Lastly, it encourages global collaboration. The goal is to supply councilors with practical tools and promote partnerships. This is to enhance urban management and improve the quality of life in Latin American cities.
The summit will end with a Final Declaration. This document outlines the shared commitments and future vision for Latin American cities. It stresses the councilors’ commitment to creating sustainable and inclusive communities through transparent and resilient municipal leadership.
The summit was organized by the Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA). They partnered with the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Municipal Associations (FLACMA). The goal of this event is to reinforce municipal governance and create a collaborative agenda to handle regional urban challenges.
