Punta Cana.- Over 500 councilors and local leaders from 33 Latin American countries are in Punta Cana for the first-ever Summit of Latin American Councilors. The summit is set to go on until November 2. It focuses on five main areas: enhancing local legislative bodies, advancing sustainable city growth, climate action, innovation in public management, and encouraging global collaboration. The goal of the summit is to equip councilors with practical tools and foster partnerships to improve urban management and living standards in Latin American cities.
The summit will end with a Final Declaration that outlines the collective obligations and future vision of Latin American cities. This statement will highlight councilors’ commitment to creating sustainable, inclusive communities through transparent and durable municipal leadership.
The Dominican Association of Vocals (ADOVA), the Dominican Municipal League (LMD), the Dominican Federation of Municipal Districts (FEDODIM), and the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities, and Municipal Associations (FLACMA) have organized the summit. The goal is to enhance municipal governance and establish a common agenda to tackle regional urban issues.
