PUJ Airport Update: Terminal A Reopens Initial Check-In Zones as Multi-Million Dollar Upgrades Continue

Punta Cana, La Altagracia — Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) has partially resumed check-in operations at Terminal A as modernization work continues across the facility.

The measure took effect on July 15, 2026, and is intended to maintain operational continuity, improve passenger processing and expand capacity at the Dominican Republic’s busiest airport.

Under the latest operational phase, several airlines have resumed check-in services at Terminal A. They include Air Canada, Air Transat, Air Caraïbes, Allegiant, Avianca, Breeze Airways, Discover Airlines, Flair Airlines, Iberojet España, Iberojet Portugal, JetSMART, LIAT Air, LOT Polish Airlines, Neos, Rutaca, Sky Cana, Sky High Aviation Services, Sun Country Airlines, Sunrise Airways, TUI Airways, Turpial Airlines, WestJet, Wingo and World2Fly.

JetBlue, Frontier, LATAM Peru, Aeromexico, Sky Airline Peru and GlobalX will continue to process check-in at Terminal B, according to the airport’s operating schedule.

Airport officials advised passengers to confirm their designated terminal with their airline before traveling to the airport in order to avoid delays and streamline their departure process.

Modernization program continues

Airport management said the terminal adjustments are part of an ongoing modernization program focused on improving operational efficiency, security and passenger comfort.

Punta Cana International Airport, which opened in 1983, is the Dominican Republic’s main air gateway and one of the Caribbean’s busiest aviation hubs. The airport connects Punta Cana with 81 international airports across 26 countries and handles approximately eight million passengers annually, according to airport information.

Its facilities include two runways, 41 boarding gates, 45 aircraft parking positions and four VIP lounges. PUJ also operates a recycling and incineration center that processes an estimated 60% of the waste generated by airport operations.

The airport has received recognition from Airports Council International for eight consecutive years as Best Airport by Size and Region in the Caribbean and Latin America in the category serving between five million and 15 million passengers. It has also earned Level 3 certification through ACI’s Customer Experience Accreditation Program and a four-star certification from SKYTRAX.
