Verón-Punta Cana Sanitation Gets $400M Upgrade
The Verón-Punta Cana sanitation initiative, part of a broader coastal infrastructure push, will receive $400 million in upgrades to expand sewage systems, build a treatment plant with a 1 cubic meter capacity, and develop a water reuse network that could double treated water availability for landscaping and irrigation.

Inapa’s executive director, Wellington Arnaud, presented the project during an Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) meeting at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington. The plan is part of a $1 billion coastal sanitation program covering over 200 kilometers of coastline and is expected to benefit more than one million residents and visitors.
Construction is already underway in Boca Chica, where a submarine outfall and sewage network are being developed. The Verón-Punta Cana phase is expected to begin soon, with proposals set to be received by October 12. The project aligns with the government’s República Dominicana 2036 vision, which seeks to double the country’s GDP through infrastructure investments.
Water reuse will play a key role in the Punta Cana plan, with treated water allocated for green spaces, golf courses, and hotel landscaping. This approach not only conserves potable water but also supports sustainable development in high-demand tourism zones.
Inapa’s investment in water and sanitation has grown significantly, reaching RD$10.3 billion in 2025. Under the National Water Pact, the government plans to invest around $9 billion over the next decade. So far, approximately $1.5 billion has been executed, with projections reaching $3 billion once the 2026 budget is approved.
The initiative follows recent energy infrastructure expansions in Punta Cana, including CEPM’s new facility in Friusa, reinforcing the region’s capacity to support growing commercial and residential demand.
