President Luis Abinader has given commissions related to tourism 60 days to formulate a plan for territorial planning in Punta Cana, the country’s largest tourist hub.
Minister of Tourism, David Collado, informed that a commitment has been made to organise emerging tourist destinations, such as Miches and Flints.
“The goal is to bring order to Bávaro-Punta Cana. Various works to improve the road infrastructure in the region have already begun,” said the minister.
According to Collado, the plan is expected to stimulate economic growth, benefit the local community and enhance the various services, beyond just the hotel sector.
In July 2024, the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), via the Vice Ministry of Territorial Planning and Regional Development (VIOTDR), handed over a Territorial Planning Instrument to the local authorities of Veron-Punta Cana. The instrument aids in comprehensive regional development.
The proposal includes strategies for an Environmental Assessment, which will be evaluated by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. The document will be forwarded to various sector bodies for review and evaluation.
