Abinader emphasizes US investment climate and tourism growth, announces country to host upcoming Summit of the Americas

Santo Domingo, DR.- President Luis Abinader returned to his homeland on Thursday from the United States, where he served as a speaker at significant gatherings in New York and Washington. His speeches predominantly focused on the growth of tourism, the country’s political and economic stability and investment opportunities that the country offers.

He mentioned places such as Punta Cana and Miche, Punta Bergantín, Puerto Plata and Pedernales to exemplify the State’s infrastructure investments, which were a response to foreign investments in these tourist hubs.

“Our proficiency in attracting foreign investment is apparent in our tourism sector, particularly in Punta Cana and Miches. Currently, we are promoting a new tourist pole in the southern part of the country, in Pedernales,” the president stated.

On this topic, President Abinader explained that they are rejuvenating the tourist region of Puerto Plata with the construction of Playa Bergantín. This ambitious tourism and real estate undertaking, led by the private sector, aims to inspire innovation in the digital realm and will feature attributes such as an academic campus, a film studio, and a golf course, besides extensive road infrastructure.

During his speech at the Conference on Infrastructure Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean, arranged by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), and the Financial Times, President Luis Abinader talked about identifying investor opportunities and how to manage assets.

He emphasized that the economic stability of the nation has drawn investors due to its favorable business environment and has resulted in substantial foreign direct investment, contributing nearly 4% of GDP over recent years, one of the highest in the region.

Additionally, he applauded the fact that the Dominican Republic has for over half a century, recorded a significant achievement in the region, achieving an average annual economic growth of around 5%. This led to a gross domestic product (GDP) surpassing 130 billion dollars, making the Dominican Republic the seventh-largest economy in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Furthermore, Luis Abinader served as a speaker at the 27th Annual Conference of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) in Washington, at the Organization of American States (OAS) headquarters. Here, he reasserted his dedication to democracy and sustainable growth.

The Dominican president emphasized that a genuine democracy is centered on a fundamental commitment to the protection of human rights. These not only safeguard the dignity and freedom of each person but also form the basis on which the validity of political power rests.

In the same setting, President Abinader announced the forthcoming Summit of the Americas in Punta Cana, focusing on strengthening democracy and advancing inclusive economic development in the region.

President Luis Abinader is set to meet with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, this Friday at the National Palace, where they will discuss matters of mutual interest.

Antony Blinken is expected to arrive at the National Palace at 9:55 a.m., accompanied by his delegation.

Upon his arrival, Blinken will participate in a private meeting with President Abinader, followed by a more extensive bilateral meeting with members from both delegations.

After the meetings, both leaders will address the press, highlighting the discussion points from the meetings. The day will end with an official lunch at the National Palace, where the discussions will continue in a more informal setting.
