Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has announced that foreign labor’s time in the Dominican Republic is limited. In a meeting with the Dominican Association of Housing Builders and Developers (Acoprovi), he urged for a nationwide agreement to gradually decrease and minimize foreign labor over a span of three to four years.
Abinader stressed the importance of mechanizing construction processes and transitioning from traditional methods to more automated ones. He plans to establish a government commission to collaborate with the construction sector and create a clear policy for reducing foreign labor.
The president emphasized the construction sector’s significant contribution to the economy, with housing accounting for over 80% of private sector construction in 2022.
