Verón, Dominican Republic – The Acevedo Foundation, under the leadership of president Jenisbel Acevedo and the Acevedo family, carried out a high-impact back-to-school initiative at Samarita Primero Elementary School in Verón, reaffirming its commitment to education and community development.

During the event, volunteers distributed school supplies, provided meals, and led recreational activities for children. The initiative also marked the unveiling of a newly painted and renovated classroom space, aimed at creating a more inspiring learning environment.

“We believe in the transformative power of education and in giving real tools to those striving for a better future,” said Jenisbel Acevedo, a philanthropist and author. “Supporting children, youth, and women on their path to improvement is at the heart of our mission.”

A highlight of the day was a special reading of Acevedo’s children’s book, Un barco de sueños (A Boat of Dreams), which tells the story of a migrant girl’s sea journey in search of a better life. The narrative struck a personal chord with many students, who saw reflections of their own families and experiences in the story.

Beyond its focus on early education, Samarita Primero Elementary also offers technical training programs in nursing and pharmacy for residents aged 16 and older—contributing to both professional growth and economic empowerment within the community.

The initiative is the latest in the Acevedo Foundation’s ongoing efforts to foster educational access, social inclusion, and opportunity throughout the eastern Dominican Republic.
