Juan Bancalari is the president of the Dominican Association of Sports Marinas and Nautical Clubs (ADMC). He highlights that nautical tourism can enhance the ‘all-inclusive’ tourist offer and increase its quality.
He points out the various options available in the Dominican Republic, from exploring the Colonial Zone and Jarabacoa Falls in The Veg to spotting whales in Samana or enjoying golf in Punta Cana.
He mentions that around 3,000 vessels arrive in the country annually, equivalent to 10% of the vessels that cross the Caribbean during the high season. He estimates that doubling this number could result in a significant economic boost for the region.
He also explains the diverse demographics of visitors participating in nautical activities, with different age groups and interests reflected in the type of tourism they engage in.
