Air Century started operations in Colombia last Sunday, December 17, with direct flights between Cartagena and Punta Cana (Dominican Republic). The intention is to convert Cartagena into its main center of operations.
Felipe Gutierrez, Commercial Director of the airline, revealed that “the company's projections are to mobilize around 7,500 people between the two destinations in the first year of the route. The first two arrival and departure flights showed 100% occupancy. There are already some 2024 seasons that show occupancy between 85 and 90%.
“We want to strengthen this market with operations in Cartagena, decentralizing air operations that are usually concentrated in Bogota and Medellin” he added.
He indicated that “the company began operations with two weekly flights and a third frequency that would operate during high season times such as Easter, mid-year vacations (July – August), School Recess Week (October 8 to 14) and Weekend of the Year (December 15 to January 15)».
Gutiérrez revealed that on the company's first flights between Cartagena and Punta Cana, the majority of travelers are from Cartagena, La Guajira and Barranquilla, although there are also passengers from Montería, Valledupar and Sincelejo, according to El Universal.
