Santo Domingo—Dominican Republic-based low-cost airline Arajet, which began operations in September 2022, is preparing for a significant expansion into the United States. After launching its inaugural flight to Colombia’s Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ), the airline has steadily grown its international footprint.
This year, Arajet entered the U.S. market with flights to Miami International Airport (MIA), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), and San Juan’s Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU). The carrier is set to further its presence in the coming months, with new service to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) beginning November 20, operating four times a week, and to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) three times weekly starting November 15. Arajet has also announced service to Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB), marking its sixth U.S. destination.
Now, the airline is seeking regulatory approval to launch service to seven additional U.S. cities, along with five new routes at airports it already serves. While final clearance is still pending, industry observers expect at least a portion of the proposed expansion to move forward, signaling a bold growth trajectory for the Dominican flag carrier.
