Arajet Shifts Numerous Routes from AILA to Its New Punta Cana Base

A month after establishing a new base at the Punta Cana International Airport, Arajet is quickly becoming a leading firm in the Dominican Republic. The airline has no new destination plans for the third quarter of 2024, but is getting ready to start its first flights to the USA.

In the last week of October, Arajet will shift several routes from Saint Dominic/The Americas to its new base in Punta Cana. In certain cases, the number of daily flights to the Dominican Republic will be doubled. This provides more connectivity options, without losing the ability to connect to other destinations in their network.

At present, it flies to strong>Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile, São Paulo, Lima, Guayaquil, Quito, Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, San José-CR, Guatemala City, San Salvador, Mexico City, Cancún, Aruba, Curacao, Kingston, Montreal, Toronto and St. Maarten.

Between January and August 2024, Arajet carried 577,517 passengers. This makes it the seventh largest airline in terms of traffic in the Dominican Republic. The JAC from RD reports that destinations in Mexico and Colombia had the highest demand, accounting for 41% of all passengers.

Since June 2024, the airline has operated with ten Boeing 737 MAX 8 planes, each seating 185 passengers. The Cirium platform anticipates the company receiving 18 additional aircraft by 2029, with an option for seven more MAX.

Arajet’s Santo Domingo and Punta Cana Operations

Arajet’s expansion in Punta Cana lets it operate in three airports in the Dominican Republic. The airline is increasing the number of routes from 20 to 28, meaning a 19.5% growth in flights to and from the country.

  • The Punta Cana (PUJ) base will see flight increases to locations like Bogota (BOG), Buenos Aires/Ezeiza (EZE), and Cancun (CUN).
  • The Santiago de los Caballeros base (STI) will operate additional flights to Medellín/Rionegro.
  • Additional weekly flights will also be made from Santo Domingo/Las Americas to locations like Aruba (AUA), Bogotá (BOG), and Cancun (CUN).
