Asonahores emphasizes the economic benefits of Tourism

Punta Cana.- Asonahores reports tourism brings in about 10% of the tax revenue for the Dominican government. It generated over RD$155,000 million in taxes in 2022. The report was given at the XXXVI Commercial Exhibition at Blue Mall Punta Cana. Vice President Raquel Peña, Tourism Minister David Collado, and the Asonahores business community were in attendance.

According to David Llibre, president of Asonahores, for every peso the government exempts from tourism taxes, 12 pesos is generated through tourism’s interconnected productive chain. This includes the purchase of goods and services totalling RD$139,000 million. He urged reformation of the tax structure for better attraction of investments and continued support of the tourism industry.

Dominican tourism represents around 30% of the nation’s foreign exchange earnings, Llibre added. This helps maintain the exchange rate’s stability. He emphasized the need for supportive legislation to attract $5 billion in foreign investment. This would in turn pull in two million more visitors.
