In August 2023, the airports of the Dominican Republic recorded an entry and exit flow of 1,575,082 passengers, of which 745,950 entered and 829,078 left the national territory. In that sense, in August of this year, passenger traffic in the country increased by 8% compared to August 2022.

This increase of 8% represents continuous growth, however, it is a slowdown in growth compared to previous months. Taking into account that in July, growth was 12%, which represents a slowdown of 4% from July to August. If the comparison is taken with January 2023, which recorded 25% growth, August’s growth of 8% is significantly lower, with a difference of 17 percent.

In August 2023, a total of 11,528 aircraft movements were recorded, of which 5,762 were arrivals and 5,766 were departures.

770,922 passengers were registered at the Punta Cana airport in August 2023, which represents 49% of the total. This is the first time since September 2022 that Punta Cana Airport accounted for less than half of the country’s total passengers.

At Las Américas airport in July 2023, more than 500 thousand passengers were registered for the first time. In August 2023, it surpassed this mark again with 506,247 passengers, which represents 32% of the total. This makes Las Américas Airport the second busiest in the country.

Together these two airports handled 81% of the passengers who entered and left the Dominican Republic.
