Banco BHD hosts discussion on the intersection of tourism and investment

MADRID SPAIN. Banco BHD held its first BHD Tourism and Investment Forum, an event designed to discuss and analyze topics of common interest related to tourism and foreign investment in the Dominican Republic.

The event is an initiative of the BHD Corporate and Business Banking and takes place within the framework of the Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur).

The president of Banco BHD, Steven Puig, highlighted that the forum is a space for learning, exchange of knowledge and good practices to enrich the role of banking in tourism, a sector that the entity has financed “for more than 20 years.” .

The forum was divided into two parts. In the first, Bernardo Fuentes, vice president of Economic Studies at Banco BHD, spoke about the evolution and prospects of the Dominican economy. Jacqueline Mora, technical vice Minister of Tourism, presented how the Ministry promotes tourism investment in the country.

The second part consisted of a panel titled «Sustainable tourism: Current situation, perspective, mitigants and best practices»moderated by Luis Molina Maríñez, senior vice president of Corporate and Business Banking at Banco BHD.

Panelists included Haydée Kuret by Rainierico-founder and vice president of the board of directors of Puntacana Group; Felipe Buhigas, corporate commercial and marketing director of Solunion; Paola Serrano, regional and markets director for LATAM and international at Global Risks at Mapfre, and David Llibre, president of the National Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores-economia-mueve-turismo/”>Asonahores).

Molina Maríñez highlighted that the meeting allowed “to materialize a goal that we all share, which is to continue promoting the development of the Dominican tourism sector through knowledge and best sustainability practices.”

During the panel, topics were addressed such as the contribution of environmental protection and community development projects, sustainability practices, social inclusion and its impact on communities, the challenges of the tourism sector in the implementation of sustainable practices, trends of sustainability in tourism and the mitigation of environmental and social risks related to tourism.

The forum was attended by the ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the kingdom of Spain, Juan Bolívar Díaz, as well as government officials, diplomats and consular officials of the Caribbean country, local officials, Dominican and Spanish businessmen, and BHD executives, among other figures. of the tourism sector.
