British man caught with 36 packages of suspected cocaine at Punta Cana Airport

Punta Cana. Agents from the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) and members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps, coordinated by the Public Ministry, seized 36 packages presumably of cocaine, in an operation carried out at the Punta Cana International Airport, La Altagracia province.

DNCD agents and members of other official organizations were carrying out inspection tasks in one of the boarding areas of the terminal. A canine unit alerted of strange substances in two suitcases.

In accordance with the established protocol and in the presence of a deputy prosecutor, they were opened. A total of 36 packages were found in both suitcases.

A 32-year-old British man was arrested in the case. He is being placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry of the province of La Altagracia for the corresponding purposes.

“The Public Ministry and the DNCD have initiated an investigation to establish if there are others involved in the frustrated shipment of the substance to Frankfurt, Germany.”

The authorities have continued to reinforce interdiction operations against drug trafficking and its related crimes. This is done at airports, ports, borders, and throughout the national territory.

The 36 packages were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to determine the type and exact weight of the substance.
