BTM 2024 Kicks Off with Over 3,000 Business Appointments

The 26th installment of the Buyers Trade Mission (BTM), the key business forum in the Central American region, kicked off in San Jose, Costa Rica. This event is organized by the Promoter of Foreign Trade of Costa Rica (PROCOMER). Here, over 500 local exporters and 300 international purchasers are set to participate in over 3,000 business meetups on the 11th and 12th of September at the Costa Rica Convention Center.

The BTM 2024, convened by the Foreign Trade Promoter of Costa Rica (PROCOMER), seeks to encourage commerce and form strategic partnerships. This is achieved by linking local companies from areas such as farming, food, industry, and services, with buyers from above 40 nations such as the USA, Germany, Turkey, Greece, Porcelain, Chili, UK, Japan, Canada, and others.

BTM2024

The Chairperson of PROCOMER’s Board of Directors and Minister of Foreign Trade, Manuel Tovarhighlighted that Costa Rica is a country that embraces commerce, generating opportunities via trade agreements that afford access to two thirds of the world’s GDP. He affirmed that initiatives like the BTM facilitate additional business, employment, and progress for the nation.

Laura López, PROCOMER’s Chief Executive talking on the event emphasized that “BTM 2024 illustrates how sustainability informs business and boosts exports. Through such events, PROCOMER aims to link our exporters with foreign buyers, stimulate commerce and enlarge the positive effect of our exports nationwide, generating prosperity that, in turn, promotes the expansion of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and communities beyond the Greater Metropolitan Area.”

Over 40% of the local firms participating in the event are situated outside the Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM), and 68% are SMEs, this showcases the country’s commitment to bolstering the growth of SMEs as an economic engine.

Additionally, BTM will also encompass specialized talks and field trips dubbed “reverse missions” in sectors such as agriculture, advanced manufacturing, and creative industries. This gives international buyers the chance to learn about the country’s export potential and offerings hands-on.
