Cap Cana, DR – Destination City Cap Cana and SBR Sports officially announced the opening of registrations for IRONMAN® 70.3. The triathlon will be held for the first time in the Dominican Republic on April 28, 2024.

A select group of media and journalists were invited to the meeting, where the organizers presented the routes for the swimming, running, and cycling disciplines.

Jorge Subero Medina, executive president of Cap Cana, expressed Cap Cana’s pride in being the first destination to host this triathlon in the country. The event will initially take place for three consecutive years.

“The Destination City is a project that promotes a differentiating lifestyle. It also focuses on being a place where guests, owners, residents, visitors, and tourists can enjoy great diversification, including sports tourism,” he said.

Subero Medina added that Cap Cana is ideal for hosting sporting events and they are focused on attracting more of these activities. The expenses of tourists and visitors contribute to many other consumer and service sectors.

Javier Herrera, representative of SBR Sports in the Dominican Republic, believes that this IRONMAN is just the beginning. He predicts that more triathlons will be held in the country as the triathlete community and other athletes embrace this type of event.

Víctor Hugo, partner of SBR Sports, expressed the honor of partnering with Cap Cana for this event. He highlighted the destination’s immensity and majesty, which is perfect for hosting such events. He also emphasized the growth this event represents for the global triathlete community.

“We are proud to collaborate with Cap Cana to make IRONMAN 70.3 Cap Cana a reality in the Dominican Republic. Our athletes will compete and enjoy everything Cap Cana has to offer, making it a perfect destination for this race,” said Wilber Anderson, CEO of SBR Sports.

The race

Athletes will begin the IRONMAN 70.3 Cap Cana challenge by swimming 1.9 km (1.2 miles) in the crystal-clear waters of Cap Cana’s private beach and coastline in the Atlantic Ocean. They will then head to the transition area, located 200 meters from the start of the swim course, to continue with a 90 km (56 mile) one-lap bike ride through the streets and beautiful gardens of Cap Cana.

The foot race, covering 21.1 km (13.1 miles), will pass through the resort community of Cap Cana. It is a flat course that will take athletes to the renowned Cap Cana Marina, where they will be surrounded by magnificent coastal surroundings.

The finish line, located at Playa Juanillo near the Margaritaville Hotel, will provide a perfect ending to the IRONMAN 70.3 Cap Cana triathlon, with athletes crossing between palm trees with the sea in the background.
