Collado announces over 400 million peso investment in iconic projects in Colonial City by Tourism.

In Santo Domingo, the Tourism Minister, David Collado, commenced the reconstruction of Eugenio María de Hostos, Colón and Callejón Regina streets within the colonial city. The project will cost over 61 million pesos.

The area targeted for the reconstruction project spans 7.11 km2, with focus on enhancing sidewalks, containers, lighting, landscaping, storm drains, street paving and pathways.

The project will be carried out in sections to minimize disruptions to mobility and commerce, ensuring pathways remain accessible for pedestrians.

Funding for the project, overseen by the Executing Committee of Infrastructure of Tourist Areas (CEIZTUR) Del mitur, totals RD $ 61,592,250.

David Collado announced that the reconstruction is a part of a larger street rehabilitation project funded by the Ministry of Tourism and the Inter-American Development Bank to the tune of 90 million dollars.

«Our goal with this large-scale rehabilitation program is job creation. We’ve already invested over 400 million pesos in key works«, commented the Tourism Minister.

The minister indicated that 8% of the tourists who come to the country visit Colonia city, which adds to its vibrant energy.

Reconstruction work will be divided into sections: between Vicente Celestino Duarte and the Fort of the Angle (190 meters); Hostos Street will be segmented between José Gabriel García and Father Billini (187 meters) and between La Mercedes and Archbishop Meriño (202 meters).

In addition, the popular Turizoneando program will be relaunched, operating on weekends from now through June.

Planned Interventions

The intervention for Colón Street will focus on the section between Vicente Celestino Duarte and Fuerte del Angulo. The project includes installing ramps for vehicles and pedestrians, constructing east and west sidewalks, paving, landscaping, installing lighting, signage, benches, bollards, and garbage disposals.

The José Gabriel García-Padre Billini section of Hostos Street will see the construction of a pedestrian and vehicular platform with parking provision. Also included are provisions for medium and low voltage electricity, communication, maintenance, rainwater adaptation, signage, and installing curbs and bollards as necessary.

In the historic Callejón de Regina, its 143 meters will see a change of cobblestones in the northern section, landscaping adjustments, maintenance of drainage system, and the addition of planters and bollards.
