The tourism minister recognized the importance of diversifying tourism and attracting luxury hotel brands to the Dominican Republic.
David Collado said that it is necessary to increase the inventory portfolio of luxury rooms or hotels in the country, since this segment spends three or even four times more than a common tourist on an “all-inclusive.”
He values the type of tourists that arrive each month, but “we are betting on a strategy of diversifying tourism, in order to take firm steps to a new segment of tourists.”
Understand that destinations such as Punta Cana and Cap Cana are focused on this type of tourism and important brands such as The Ritz-Carlton and The Luxury Collection are interested in investing in the Dominican Republic.
He expressed that there is an aura of confidence in tourism and the country remains fashionable, and everyone talks about what the nation offers.
When interviewed, Collado expressed that the country needs more hotel rooms, especially because a large number of tourists are being received and in the winter season the demand reaches 100 percent.
“If we want to continue growing we have to increase inventory more.”
He argued that both Miches and Macao are two areas that can attract this type of luxury investment, especially because the diversity of international standard hotel brands generates more confidence for others to become interested.
