Concerns rise among Cancun hoteliers as Brazilians favor Punta Cana over Cancun

Santo Domingo.- Jesús Almaguer, president of the Hotel Association of Cancún, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, once again requested the Federal Tourism Secretariat to intercede with the Foreign Relations Secretariat to facilitate the process for Brazilian tourists to enter the hotel country with the electronic visa and “not giving those tourists to the Dominican Republic.”

“We ask the undersecretary to help us with the issue of visas for Brazilian tourists. We are stopping paying 400 dollars for each tourist from that country. It is a tourism that gives us a lot. It is very important that we get to work. We are giving the market to the Dominican Republic, to Curacao. We need to catch up on the tourism issue. “We have the destinations, we have the people, which is the most important thing,” insisted the also host of Travel Mart 2023.

For his part, Humberto Hernández Haddad, federal undersecretary of Tourism, pointed out that first the infrastructure had to be well planned before bringing more tourists than could be served in Quintana Roo, referring to Brazilians.

“Tourist spaces need to be the subject of planning and can no longer be the subject of last-minute improvisation. The tourist phenomenon of Quintana Roo has been growing at a speed where sizes are being surpassed and greater spaces must be provided to satisfy the tourist potential of Quintana Roo in the Mexican Caribbean,” he assured.
