In Orlando, Florida, the Dominican Republic is conducting its third Roadshow. Here, over 350 tour operators, travel agents, and representatives from major airlines get to learn more about the magnificent tourism offerings of the Caribbean nation.
During the occasion, the country’s Minister of Tourism, David Collado, showcased the captivating allure of the Dominican Republic, from its beautifully pristine beaches to the richness of its vibrant culture and the emerging warmth of its locals. Collado shared insights on the current activities within the tourism sector and the significant growth in tourist numbers and flights since the pandemic began. He also introduced the new flight routes in partnership with several airlines including American Airlines, Jet Blue, Copa Airlines, and Delta. Furthermore, the minister put a spotlight on the beautiful new attractions the island, being a highly sought-after tourist spot, has to offer.
The United States is the Dominican Republic’s main source of tourists. In particular, Orlando stands as the country’s third largest city and ranks sixth worldwide. It’s projected that in 2023, approximately 215,000 tourists will be welcomed from the Orlando airport, accounting for nearly 19% of total tourist arrivals from the United States. By September 2024, this figure is expected to increase to 22%.
It’s evident that strengthening the trade relations and business and investment opportunities with Orlando is key for the country.
David Collado emphasized that:
«Our firm commitment is to continue promoting tourism in the Dominican Republic. Our aim is to foster job creation, foreign currency generation and fortify our national economy. As of September, we’ve received around 197,000 tourists via the Orlando airport. We project a growth of 10% by 2024. These figures make us proud and inspire us to continue establishing the Dominican Republic as a top-rated destination in the global market«.
The event forms part of the Ministry of Tourism‘s strategy to enhance the country’s global promotion to attract more visitors, thus contributing to the sustainable growth of the tourism sector.
