Santo Domingo, RD.- Erika Lane renowned singer, communicator and actress, debuts as executive producer and protagonist of her debut film “The Caribbean Singer”, sharing the leading role with Andrés Sandoval and under the direction of the Spanish María José Ferreiro, combining drama, romance, and thriller of espionage.
In this new facet of Erika as a filmmaker and actress, she presents the project “The Caribbean Singer”, a feature film that represents a freer version of one of the most shocking moments in the history of the DR, such as the conspiracies that were woven to eliminate General Trujillo from 1960 until his attack, where he finally died.
Synopsis:
“Valentina” is a young woman who dreams of shining on the nights of the RD show. She begins her artistic career singing in a bar known as “El Caribe.” It is there where she meets the love of her life, Aníbal.
“Aníbal” is a spy of Colombian origin, trained in Venezuela, who arrives in the DR with a false identity to join Pablo, a Spanish anarchist who fled Franco’s dictatorship and who now organizes a civil movement to eliminate Trujillo. However, within the bowels of power, Lieutenant Abel, Trujillo’s bodyguard, surgically prepares a plan that can bring democracy to the country once Trujillo falls.
The big problem is that both groups cannot operate together, and the existence of one puts the other in serious danger, only one can succeed in its mission. Valentina goes from being a young woman who shines on the nights of the Island’s spectacle to a woman who will carry out one of the most dangerous missions: conquer Trujillo and take him to the place where he will be executed.
The cast
Andrés Sandoval, renowned Colombian actor who has starred in and participated in international productions such as La Reina del Flow, Corazones armorados, Rosario Tijeras, Tres Milagros among others. Víc Gómez, Vlad Sosa and other great actors also star.
The script and direction of the film is by the renowned Spanish screenwriter María José Ferreiro, who has worked for Telemundo Internacional, FoxTelecolombia (now TIS) Televisión Colombiana and Canal Caracol.
As for the general and executive production, it is in charge of Bright Records, Erika Lane’s company, and in line production the Sagittarius Films team of Soraya Mateo.
The promotional teaser for “The Caribbean Singer” will be filmed in 4 days around the colonial zone in Santo Domingo and will provide a preview of what this new work of Dominican cinema will be like.
