Upon landing at Santo Domingo’s Punta Cana International Airport, CEO of Blue Caribbean Properties, Mayra Díaz, was astounded by the beautiful Dominican Republic. She was greeted by the warmth of the climate and the distinctly Dominican architecture of the airport.

She was taken aback by the open-air design of the airport with roofs made of grey palm fronds. Díaz recalls her astonishment at the unique, authentic Caribbean style of the airport.

Díaz, originally from Mexico, came from Barcelona in 2005. She relocated to join a telecommunication project for the Caribbean that predominantly catered to the hospitality industry. However, technology advanced, and communication means for tourists evolved, leading to a different turn in her career.

She began receiving requests to find properties for the organizations she had established relationships with. She initially started dealing with beachfront plots before gradually moving on to rentals.

The Mexican native had not originally planned to stay in the country. However, the warmth of the Dominican people, the uniqueness of the local stores, and the island’s cold beer won her over, leading to her decision to settle in the Dominican Republic.

She appreciates the friendly demeanor of Dominican locals and their willingness to listen. Díaz believes such simple happiness is a rarity. Her work at Blue Caribbean Properties started when she met Michael Grijalva. Grijalva bought two properties in the Dominican and soon developed the idea of helping others do the same.

In time, Díaz assumed the role of the general manager of Blue Caribbean Properties. The company, which consists of 50 agents, focuses on property sales to foreigners and locals. Before that, she worked as an executive for Noval Properties.

Díaz sees Punta Cana as a hub of opportunities and potential growth in various sectors, such as construction and tourism. She aims to continue contributing to regional development by connecting foreigners with the real value and essence of the Dominican Republic.
